Nature
The almost all territory consists of fertile black soil.
In some places it is combined with salines, salt marshes, meadow soils and malt.
In North Kazakhstan region soil consists of plain blach soil and the south part has dark brown and brown soil. Bondability average point is 33.
The main waterway is the river Esil or Ishim, its length on the territory of the region is 720 km.Total number of lakes is 3000 with the total area about 4600 square meters.
North Kazakhstan region is within the forest-steppe and steppe zones. In the forest-steppe there are southern forest-steppe and kolki steppe. Southern steppe is on the North of the region and is represented by a combination of birch and aspen-birch forests on gray forest soils and malt with herb-grass meadow steppes, sedge marshes, sometimes with willow thickets on the black soils and meadow-black soils . Kolki steppe occupies the most part of the North Kazakhstan region. Aspen-birch forests form rare forests on the malt. The area is dominated by mixed-grass steppes on plain black soils, mostly plowed. The forest area is about 8% of the territory, mainly birch forests.
